Online Emotional Disability Certificate
Empower all learners. The University of Mississippi’s online Emotional Disability (EmD) Certificate equips special education instructors to build more equitable and inclusive classrooms. Prepare to identify emotional and behavioral disorders, conduct research-based assessments and interventions, and support the social, emotional, and academic success of all students in your classroom.
This certificate involves three fully online classes and one field experience to practice your newly acquired skills in a supervised setting. The School of Education opens the program to bachelor’s degree-holding candidates with a current teacher certification in special education. Earned credit hours may be applied toward a Master of Education (M.Ed.) or an Education Specialist (Ed.S.) degree.

About the Online Emotional Disability Certificate
Educators today teach in diverse classrooms. Instruction, in these scenarios, goes beyond creating a lesson and further factors in engaging, enriching, and uplifting all students, including those with emotional and behavioral disorders.
The online EmD Certificate equips licensed educators to serve and foster the development of this student population in both special education and mainstream classrooms.

Curriculum
The online Emotional Disability Certificate involves four courses totaling 12 credit hours and builds off your existing background:
- Learn to identify the characteristics of behavioral and emotional disorders in children and adolescents
- Understand how to develop assessments, provide encouragement, and deliver social and academic support to address students’ behavioral challenges
- Become familiar with applied behavior analysis principles, techniques, and ethical factors for conducting interventions
Then, apply what you learned in a practicum and field experience. Prepare to connect with students with mild/moderate, severe learning, and behavioral disabilities in a supervised setting.
